Birthday 1 in the White House.
God Danced
by Andrew Lawrence
God danced the day you were born
The angels did the bump to Gabriel’s horn
God danced the day you were born
So grateful for the gift of you
I saw God do the funky chicken
Steppin’ and kickin’ in blue suede shoes
I saw God do the boogaloo, too
Faced with the gift of you.
I have heard some folks say that long ago
God could not dance to save his soul,
But people, I’ve seen him shake that jelly roll
Just thinking ’bout the gift of you!

We just heard Guy Forsyth rock the house with this alternate birthday song Sunday night – it rocks and puts the traditional song to shame. Its change we can believe in. Guy hasn’t recorded it yet – hopefully next year we’ll have audio. Yeah, its not haiku – but its poetry/lyrics, so close enough for the editorial staff here at Haiku HQ.

A Haiku Epic on Health Care
What price our good health?/
Insurers slim down, trim cash/
Eat reform veggies/
We tried Nixon’s way/
Massive profit, massive fail/
Old fight on new turf/
Now, now, or never/
Organized theft, health foes/
Pick pockets of the dead/
March forward, join arms/
A win is for all of us/
Even resisters/
